Times Square New
York - March 29, 2007 - SIRIUS Satellite Radio and Chrysler Group
announced today that Chrysler Group will be the exclusive
auto maker to offer SIRIUS Backseat TV in its 2008
model-year vehicle lineup. Chrysler will
offer this new back seat entertainment system first in their 2008 Chrysler Town and Country and
the Dodge Caravan
line of minivans. Now, don't expect the 200 channels that you
may be
used to viewing on your home TV. Not even
close. This system kicks off with a very select,
child-friendly lineup featuring 3 channels only:
Nickelodeon, the Disney Channel and the Cartoon Network.
Chrysler will launch this
service on the all-new Dodge Caravan and
the Chrysler Town and Country when they hit the showrooms in
late summer, then expand to other select 2008 Jeep,
Dodge and Chrysler vehicles. SIRIUS
Backseat TV will receive its signal from an in-vehicle satellite
video receiver and two small roof-mounted antennas, and will
display the TV
programs on the vehicle’s second and/or
third-row video screens. The system affords passengers plenty of
flexibility. Rear seat occupants
can don wireless headphones while watching TV so that Mom
and Dad can listen to SIRIUS Satellite Radio up front.
Passengers can operate the system using a remote control unit
from the rear-seat or with the
radio controls on the dash. They can
even have one screen display TV programming while another
plays a DVD movie or runs a video
game. In addition, they can display TV programming on the
center dash screen for front-seat viewing when the vehicle
is in Park. Besides SIRIUS TV, the new Chrysler minivans
introduce a multitude of slick, family-oriented options including
Swivel 'n Go seating which allows the
second row seats to turn and face the rear row to form a
cozy conversation or game area with a table between the
rows to play games or do homework. The manufacturer
has attached the seat belts directly to the seat frames of second
row seats to allow passengers to buckle themselves in even
while facing the rear.
Chrysler is pricing the SIRIUS Backseat
TV at a Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $470, which
includes the first year of service, when packaged with
Chrysler Group’s Rear Seat Entertainment System (not
included in the $470 price) and SIRIUS Satellite Radio.
After the first year, the SIRIUS Backseat TV service is
available for $7 per month when packaged with SIRIUS
Satellite Radio ($12.95 per month). Comments are always appreciated.
