What does the pizza delivery guy in your area and your vehicle's Fuel Pump have in common? Both of them have a responsibility of delivering a product to their customers. But unlike the delivery person, which delivers food from one house to the next, your car fuel pump is responsible for distributing something else. That 'something' is fuel.

Depending on the vehicle you have, the Fuel Pump can be seen mounted on the fuel tank, under the vehicle, or placed on the side of your engine block. This component works by providing your carburetor or fuel injector with fuel which they release into the engine. It comes in two types: mechanical and electrical. A mechanical fuel pump is able to pump fuel by using a rocker arm. This lets your engine's diaphragm move up and down. Once the diaphragm starts moving, fuel is immediately pumped and distributed. The electric fuel pump, on the other hand, works the same way. The only difference is that its rocker arm is powered electrically. However, it does carry the same function as that of its mechanical counterpart, which is to control the up and down movement of the diaphragm, causing the fuel pump to transmit fuel.
