I have installed by distributor in a different location from where it was when I took it off. How do I get back in the correct location?

There are two ways depending. One way (the proper way but takes more time) is to get the #1 cylinder at top dead center on the compression stroke. Then index the position of the distributor rotor to be directly under the #1 ignition wire location on the distributor. With this method you can still be off by a tooth either way. When it's right, it will start up and run good right away. If you are off a tooth, it will not start.

Another way - I'm assuming that you might be close to the original spot that the distributor was in. Just move over one tooth in each direction and see if it starts.
